Emails and Subscriptions

The best way to stay informed of what is going on is to sign up for a RSS feed, or an email subscription. I find that the XML RSS feeds update faster. If you do not know what a RSS feed is, then email is the way you need to go. Emails should go out once every 24 hours ONLY when I add new posts. Comments will not cause an email to go out. One day I will stop sending out my mass email to my contacts in GMail and just keep this blog updated. So PLEASE sign up for one of the options below. Feel free to email me at me@adamsquared.com

Tubing and Toadies

Aug 27-29 - Tubing and Toadies  - Dia de los Toadies.  A day with the Toadies.  We'll be tubing on the Horseshoe and jamming with the Toadies.  Tickets for Friday night are already sold out, but there are some for Saturday.  Both nights we are sitting in the bleachers.  Jen and I have a campsite at Abbots River Outfitters.  (830) 964-2625.  CALL THEM as I don't think their email works.  If you call them, tell them you are with me.  OR tell me you are camping, and I will call them for you.  $15 a night per person, plus pitch in for electricity of $10 a night.  If you want to split a room and you know Buddy, he is getting real lodging with a floor.  The location where the show is has cabins if you would like that, but they are pricey.

IF YOU WANT TO CAMP WITH JEN AND I, LET ME KNOW ASAP, ELSE YOU WILL HAVE TO GET YOUR OWN SITE SOMEWHERE ELSE.  THE GUY HAS LIMITED SPACE. IF YOU COMMIT TO CAMPING, YOU WILL BE COMMITTING THE MONEY WHETHER YOU GO OR NOT AND I'LL BE HASSLING YOU FOR COLLECTION.

The show will be at

11860 FM 306, New Braunfels, TX‎ - (830) 964-3800

Hear the Toadies here.

Addison Oktoberfest

September 18, Addison TX.

Guten Tag,
Another Oktoberfest in Texas up in Addison.  Jen and I have some friends that we met through beer related activities (as usual) and they convinced us that we need to check out the Addison Oktoberfest.  We'll be heading up on Friday and come back on Sunday.  We'll be spending Saturday at the festivities.  I hear it is much cheaper than Wurstfest.  Nothing like putting on a cheap drunk. I got a room at the Holiday Inn, which looks like it is within walking distance and with AAA discount, it was under $70 a night.

Wurstfest

Back to Wurstfest Oct 29-30.  Jen and I have been going to Wurstfest for a few years now. USA Today had it on their Top 10 Things to Do a few years back.  Last year was the best because we went on Halloween.  Yes, there were people dressed up, including Jen and I in traditional dirndl and liederhosen. That's not what was so great about it.  The fact that you could get up and get a beer any time without waiting 15-20 minutes was great.  It was still crowded, but at just the right level.  So we are going back on Halloween weekend this year.

We have rooms at the Faust hotel which is within walking distance to the park.  There are plenty of hotels and there is usually a shuttle that will pick you up and take you to the park, or you can try and drive there and  fight the crowds in your car, or you can get a taxi.  I like the Faust because it is close by, has a bar with good beer, and there is a German restaurant one street over with live polka music.

Don't wait till the last minute to try and get a room.  They do fill up.  See you there.

Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg

You know I love beer and sausage and Jen loves sausage, saurkraut, beer, listening to polka, wearing her dirndl, watching me be happy. This year we will be hitting several Oktoberfest celebrations.  One of them being the 30th Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, Tx.  We'll be there Fri and Sat Oct 1-2.

Fredericksburg, Texas, celebrates its German heritage through Oktoberfest. Oompah at its best. German music, food and drink, arts and crafts, children's area and family fun.

OKTOBERFEST is a colorful, festive celebration of Fredericksburg, Texas' German heritage. OKTOBERFEST has become an annual tradition around the world. OKTOBERFEST is a community event of family entertainment featuring two stages and two tents with continuous oompah music, art & crafts, Children's fun area ~ Kinder Park, a German Bier Tent, and Oktoberfest Vineyard area, plus delicious food and drink ... all weekend long!

Jen and I will be staying at Das College Haus Bed and Breakfast.  They still have a few rooms left if you are interested, although you might be able to get a room at another establishment.  The festival takes place at MaktPlatz, which is off of West Main between Crockett and Adams. Map
Don't wait too long to get a room.  Some hotels near the MaktPlatz are already full.

PROST!!

Jun 24: Happy Hour @ The Anvil Bar (Changed Venue)

I couldn't pass this up, so I'm changing the venue to the Anvil Bar and Refuge. Below is from the Beer Blog on the Houston Chronicle.   I'll be there with my designated driver about 6ish.  It will probably be crowded, so bring your standing shoes.  My cell is 832-767-8656 in case you have problems.

The first Firkin Fest will be held June 24-26 at Anvil Bar & Refuge, the Flying Saucer and Petrol Station, respectively. The announcement that just landed in my e-mail inbox promises big things:
For three evenings, these havens for craft beers will be tapping a selection of exclusive cask ales, most never before tasted in the Houston market.
For those not in the know, a firkin holds cask-ale, a craft beer that is unpasteurized, unfiltered, and naturally carbonated, a holy grail of beer at its freshest for those in the know. Each night, one of the participating establishments will feature several rare cask ales:
This is just more good news for Houston's blossoming beer scene. And it's especially encouraging to see bars of this caliber coming together in the name of good brew.
Firkin Fest follows the wildly successful collaboration between the Saucer and Petrol for the six-night vertical tasting of Stone Imperial Russian Stout back in February.

New Site

I thought this might be more useful than an email going out once a month or so.  Plus it makes it easier to coordinate when we go on trips. I'm still working out some ideas for the site, so pardon the dust. I'm also still getting used to the blogging. If you see any errors or have suggestions, let me know.Just email me.

Enjoy
Adam

Jun 9: Happy Hour

Back to Mucky Duck for the Irish Sessions on Wednesday Jun 9 from 6ish till whenever. Their Irish Sessions consist of locals playing their pipes and fiddles and other instruments associated with the Irish. Last time I was there, they did not serve liquor, so make the assumption that it is wine and beer, but what else do you need.

Jun 13: Saint Arnold's Anniversary Party

Jun 13 - St Arnold's Anniversary Party.  Mark your calendar.  For reservations, please follow this link: http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e2wqozfc3ae386f9; Saint Arnold's usually sells out of their tickets within a day, so the best way to stay on top of this is to sign up for the St Arnold's Newsletter at http://www.saintarnold.com/

Jul 31 : Watermelon Festival

It's the annual Watermelon Festival at the Last Concert Cafe. Loads of hippies, beer, food, music and herbal essence in the air. Details to come, but I think the cover charge was about $10 or $15 for the whole day. There are lots of bands playing. Also to note that if you want to eat, you have to eat inside, except for the watermelon.
